In the developing world, there is no such thing as a disabled individual.
When a mother or father is blind, the whole family bears the economic and emotional
strain of the disability. Children are taken out of school to care for blind
parents, to run households, and to put food on the table.
The fate of irreversibly blind children is equally tragic.
About 500,000 children go blind each year. The majority will die in childhood. 90% of those who
survive never get the chance to go to school. Too many of them
are hidden away out of shame, misunderstanding or sheer necessity.
For dads, moms and children alike, poverty causes blindness
and blindness results in deeper poverty. It's a vicious cycle.
You can make a difference!
cbm is committed to establishing community-based
rehabilitation programs for children and adults. By reaching out
to these people with the love of Christ, we can enable them in
vocational, agricultural, and workshop training.
